Payday Loans in Singapore: Borrow S$5,000, Receive S$5,000

The law lets a licensed moneylender take up to 10% off your loan before it reaches you. On a one-month loan, that fee costs more than all the interest combined. We charge nothing.

Quick answer

A payday loan in Singapore is a short-term loan from a licensed moneylender, repaid on your next salary. Singapore has no separate payday loan law, so the same 4 percent monthly interest cap applies as to any licensed loan.

Nine days

Your salary lands on the 28th. The bill is due on the 19th.

Nine days. That is the entire problem. Not that you can't afford it, but that the money and the deadline are in the wrong order.

So you search for a payday loan in Singapore, and the first thing you hit is a wall of warnings about 400 percent interest, rollovers, and debt spirals that swallow people whole.

Almost all of it was written about a different country.

Singapore doesn't have payday loans

Not as a legal category. Read the Moneylenders Act end to end and the term never appears. There is no payday loan licence, no payday loan interest rate, and no payday loan ruleset.

What Singapore has is licensed moneylenders. One of the things a licensed moneylender can do is give you a short loan that you repay on your next salary. Somewhere along the way the industry borrowed an American label for it, and the American baggage came along for the ride.

Underneath the label it is an ordinary licensed loan with a short tenure, and it follows exactly the same rules as every other licensed loan in Singapore:

  • Interest capped at 4 percent per month, calculated on the reducing balance
  • A one-time administrative fee capped at 10 percent of the principal
  • Late fee capped at S$60 per month, and late interest at 4 percent on the overdue amount only
  • Total charges can never exceed the amount you borrowed
  • Capped at 6 times your monthly income, shared across every licensed moneylender combined
  • Signed in person at a registered office, never entirely online

And no such thing as a "no credit check" payday loan. You will read that one on comparison sites. It is false. Every licensed moneylender in Singapore is required by law to buy your Moneylenders Credit Bureau report before granting you a loan. Not sometimes. Every time. A lender advertising that it skips that check is telling you out loud that it is not following the rules, and that is the single clearest signal of an unlicensed one. If you see it, walk away and report it to the X-Ah Long hotline on 1800-924 5664.

No rollovers. No balloon repayment. No compounding. Those are features of overseas payday lending and they have no place in Singapore's licensed framework. Your schedule is fixed in the Note of Contract before you sign it. If a lender offers to roll your loan over, they are not licensed, and you should walk away.

The part everyone gets wrong about payday loan cost

Every article about payday loans in Singapore argues about the 4 percent monthly interest. On a payday loan, that is not the biggest number.

A payday loan is short by definition. One month, maybe three. Across that little time, 4 percent per month on a shrinking balance does not add up to much. The one-time 10 percent admin fee does.

Move the sliders. The left column is the legal ceiling: the most any licensed moneylender in Singapore is allowed to charge you. The right column is us.

Notice what just happened. At this length the admin fee would cost 2.5x the entire interest bill. On a short loan the fee is the largest single cost, not the interest rate everyone argues about.

Left column shows statutory maximums, not any named competitor's rates. Interest in both columns is shown at the legal maximum of 4% per month on the reducing balance; that cap applies to us too. The difference shown is the administrative fee only: the law permits up to 10% deducted at disbursement, and JS Pro Credit charges none. Late fees and court-ordered legal costs are excluded. Your actual contract is stated in writing before you sign.

Why this matters more on a payday loan than on any other loan. The admin fee is charged once, on the principal. The interest accrues over time. Stretch a loan over three years and the interest dwarfs the fee. Repay it on your next salary and the fee is nearly all of what you pay. Payday loans are the one product where the fee decides the cost, which is exactly where we removed it.

A payday advance is not a payday loan

People search for both together, so it's worth separating them.

A payday advance, also called a salary advance or a payday cash advance, comes from your employer. It is your own earned money, paid early. No interest, no lender, no contract. If your company offers one, ask for that first. It will always be cheaper than borrowing, because there is nothing to pay back beyond what you were already owed.

A payday loan comes from a licensed moneylender. It is borrowed money, with interest, a contract, and rules.

Ask your employer first. If the answer is no, or if there is no scheme to ask about, that is the point at which a licensed payday lender in Singapore becomes the honest next step.

Two minutes to apply. You see the full cost before you decide anything.

How it works

  1. Apply online

Tell us the amount and your salary date. About two minutes, on any device.

  2. Get an answer the same business day

We check your income, your existing commitments and your Moneylenders Credit Bureau report, then come back to you with what you qualify for and exactly what it costs.

  3. Visit, sign, and take the money

Come to our Lucky Plaza office. We verify your identity and go through the contract line by line, because the law requires it and because you should not sign anything you have not had explained. Once you sign, funds go out on the spot or by FAST transfer.

Check the bank first. Seriously.

A licensed moneylender is capped at 4 percent per month. A bank is not in the same universe on price, and it is not slower any more either.

Trust Bank publishes an Instant Loan at roughly 2 percent a year and says the money reaches your account in about a minute. Standard Chartered, HSBC, OCBC and DBS all advertise instant or near-instant approval on personal loans now too.

If any of them will lend to you, take it. It is not close. Go and check before you read the rest of this page. We will still be here.

So why does this page exist?

Because of a sentence buried in Trust Bank's own FAQ. Instant Loan converts a portion of your existing credit card limit into cash. You need a Trust credit card, you need enough unused limit sitting on it, and you need to pass the bank's credit checks.

If you had S$5,000 of spare credit limit doing nothing, you would not be reading a page about payday loans.

That is the entire difference. A bank lends against credit you have already been approved for. A licensed moneylender lends against your income and your ability to repay it. That is why we can say yes after a bank has said no, and it is also why we cost more when we do.

Both of those things are true at once. Anyone who tells you a moneylender is cheaper than a bank is lying to you. Anyone who tells you a bank will lend to everyone has never been turned down by one.

That table has one row that matters more than the others, and it does not point at us. If a bank will take you, go. A payday loan is a tool for one specific job: a one-off timing gap, for someone the cheaper options have already turned down.

When a payday loan is the wrong tool

A payday loan fixes a timing problem. It does not fix a shortfall.

If the gap you are closing this month will be there again next month, borrowing to close it makes next month worse rather than better. You will be short by the same amount, plus a repayment.

Signs this is the wrong product for you:

  • The gap repeats. It was there last month and it will be there next month.
  • You would need more than about three months to repay it comfortably.
  • You already have active loans with other licensed moneylenders. Your MLCB report shows them, and the 6 times income cap is shared across all of them.
  • You are borrowing in order to repay another loan.
  • You are not sure how you would repay it if your salary arrived late.

If any of those sound like you, say so when you apply. Sometimes the answer is a monthly loan instead. Sometimes the answer is not a loan at all, and free help from Credit Counselling Singapore will do more for you than we can.

There is also a switch you can pull yourself. The Moneylenders Credit Bureau operates a voluntary self-exclusion. Register for it and no licensed moneylender is permitted to give you a new unsecured loan for the period you choose. It exists for people who need the decision taken out of their hands. Asking about it costs nothing.

Who can apply

Singapore Citizens and PRs

Your NRIC, proof of income such as recent payslips or CPF contribution statements, and proof of address. From age 18.

Foreigners working in Singapore

A valid Employment Pass, S-Pass or Work Permit, your passport and FIN card, proof of employment and proof of address. A monthly income of S$2,000 or more typically applies.

Employed, self-employed and gig workers can all apply. What decides it is whether your income and existing commitments show you can repay comfortably, not whether your credit file is spotless. If you are looking for a payday loan with bad credit in Singapore, an imperfect score starts a conversation with us rather than ending one.

Check us before you trust us

Anyone can claim to be licensed. Here is what you can actually go and confirm:

Independently checkable

  1. Our licence. Moneylender's Licence No. 19/2026, listed on the Ministry of Law's public registry.
  2. Our company. ACRA Registration No. 201232637W.
  3. Our office. 304 Orchard Road, #09-11, Lucky Plaza, Singapore 238863. You will stand in it before any loan is granted, because the law requires in-person verification and because it protects you.
  4. Your own record. Buy your Moneylenders Credit Bureau Loan Information Report for S$0.50 before you apply anywhere. Checking your own report does not affect your application, and it tells you what every lender is about to see.

If a lender ever discourages you from checking any of the above, walk away. That includes us. Read more about JS Pro Credit, or start from our licensed lending overview.

Payday loan Singapore FAQs

Does Singapore have payday loans?

Not as a legal category. The Moneylenders Act has no payday loan licence, rate or ruleset. A payday loan in Singapore is simply a short-term loan from a licensed moneylender, governed by exactly the same rules as any other licensed loan.

Is a payday loan legal in Singapore?

Yes, when it comes from a moneylender licensed by the Ministry of Law. Interest is capped at 4 percent per month, the contract must be signed in person, and total charges can never exceed the amount borrowed. Unlicensed lending is a criminal offence.

How much does a payday loan cost in Singapore?

At the legal maximum: 4 percent interest per month on the reducing balance, plus a one-time admin fee of up to 10 percent of the principal. On a one-month S$5,000 loan that is S$200 interest and S$500 in fee. JS Pro Credit charges no admin fee.

Do you charge an administrative fee on a payday loan?

No. Singapore law permits a one-time admin fee of up to 10 percent of the principal, deducted before the loan reaches you. JS Pro Credit charges zero, so the amount you apply for is the amount that arrives in your account.

Can I roll over a payday loan in Singapore?

No. Rollovers are a feature of overseas payday lending and have no place in Singapore's licensed framework. Your repayment schedule is fixed in the Note of Contract before you sign, and total charges are capped at 100% of the principal.

What is the difference between a payday advance and a payday loan?

A payday advance comes from your employer and is your own earned salary paid early, with no interest and no lender. A payday loan is borrowed money from a licensed moneylender, with interest and a contract. Ask your employer first: an advance is always cheaper.

How fast can I get a payday loan in Singapore?

Applications are reviewed the same business day. Singapore law requires in-person identity verification and contract signing at the lender's registered office, so funds are disbursed after that visit, on the spot or by FAST transfer.

How much can I borrow on a payday loan in Singapore?

The statutory cap applies. If your annual income is S$20,000 or more, up to 6 times your monthly income across all licensed moneylenders combined. Below S$20,000 the cap is S$3,000, and S$500 for foreigners earning under S$10,000.

Can I get a payday loan in Singapore with bad credit?

An imperfect score is not an automatic rejection. Licensed moneylenders must check your Moneylenders Credit Bureau report before approving any loan, but income, employment stability and your ability to repay are assessed alongside it.

Is there such a thing as a no-credit-check payday loan in Singapore?

No. Licensed moneylenders are legally required to buy your Moneylenders Credit Bureau report before granting any loan. A lender advertising that it skips the credit check is not licensed. Comparison sites that describe payday loans as needing no credit check are wrong.

Is a bank loan cheaper than a payday loan in Singapore?

Far cheaper. Banks advertise instant loans at roughly 2% a year; a licensed moneylender is capped at 4% a month. If a bank will lend to you, take the bank. Bank instant loans generally draw on credit you already hold, which is why they are not open to everyone.

Can foreigners get a payday loan in Singapore?

Yes. You need a valid Employment Pass, S-Pass or Work Permit, your passport and FIN card, proof of employment and proof of address. A monthly income of S$2,000 or more typically applies, and the statutory borrowing caps for foreigners still apply.

Singapore Loan FAQs

Your questions about licensed borrowing – answered clearly with absolute transparency.

Is your company a licensed moneylender in Singapore?

Yes, we are a fully licensed moneylender registered with the Ministry of Law (MinLaw) Singapore. Our licence is held under a Singapore Pte Ltd entity, and you can verify our status on the official MinLaw registry at any time.

What is the maximum interest rate you can charge?

By Singapore law, licensed moneylenders can charge a maximum of 4% interest per month regardless of loan amount or tenure. We strictly follow this cap – no hidden fees, no compounding traps. The total interest you pay is always transparent in your loan contract.

Can foreigners or SPR apply for a loan?

Yes – Singapore Citizens, Permanent Residents (SPR), and foreigners holding a valid Employment Pass, S-Pass, or Work Permit can apply. Minimum income requirements apply (typically $2,000+ per month for foreigners), and you will need to provide valid passport, FIN card, and proof of employment.

What documents do I need to apply?

You'll typically need your NRIC or passport, proof of income (payslips or CPF statements), and proof of address. Our team will confirm the exact list based on your loan type when you apply.

Do you check my credit report (CBS)?

We do review your credit history via the Credit Bureau Singapore (CBS) as part of responsible lending. However, a less-than-perfect credit score does not automatically disqualify you. We also assess your current income, employment stability, and ability to repay.

What happens if I repay my loan early?

Early repayment is allowed and encouraged. Under Singapore regulations, you will receive a rebate on the unused interest. There is no penalty fee for early settlement. You only pay interest for the actual period you held the loan.
